If a first grader is not writing sentences on his own, would he be able to do the first-grade curriculum?

Even though your first-grade student is not writing sentences, they can begin with the first-grade curriculum.

Mr. Stephens actually begins with reviewing letters and their sounds (in a basic way – not a complete phonetic teaching), and the progression that letters are used to make words and words are used to make sentences.

Mr. Stephens starts from “square one” in sentence construction. The only “additional” help the student may need is in spelling. We recommend All About Spelling for spelling.
